Below are answers to some commonly asked questions about Camp Kaio. If you have more, please contact us - we'd love to hear from you!

What is Camp Kaio?

Camp Kaio is a vacation strategy with an intense focus on personal Bible study and building relationships. The purpose is two-fold:

  • to spend time in personal study and meditation on God’s Word to build a close personal relationship with Him
  • to spend time in one another’s company, strengthening Godly friendships

We all love to go to Bible study weekends and be fed from God’s Word, but in our very busy ecclesial and family lives it can be hard sometimes to make dedicated time for the personal study of God’s Word; to personally drink deeply of God’s Word free from distraction; to have His word in our heart “as a burning fire” (Jer. 20:9). And yet, as we all know, it is those words that give us life and hope, strength and guidance on our journey to God’s kingdom. And it is a personal relationship with our God that we are striving to build!

How did Camp Kaio start?

Camp Kaio started as a vacation strategy in 2006 by two families in which they encouraged each other to an intense schedule of immersion in both personal Bible study and family time. The improved relationship with God, between spouses, friends, children and parents, was so evident, it changed the way the families viewed holiday and became a regular event.

Larger Camp Kaio events were organized in order to expose other individuals and families to the concept and ultimately encourage them to organize their own Camp Kaio vacation with friends or another couple or family.

What does 'Kaio' mean?

Kaio (kah’-yo) a Greek word meaning “to set on fire; to burn.”
“…let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning.” Luke 12:35
“…did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the Scriptures?” Luke 24:32

Is Camp Kaio associated with other denominations who have started using the name 'Camp Kaio' for their events?

No. Kaio being a Greek word from the original Bible text, it is not surprising that other denominations may have independently selected it for their purposes. This Christadelphian site is not associated with any other denomination nor is the concept described here to be confused with non-Christadelphian events.

What is the purpose of this website?

The purpose of this website is to make the concept available to an even wider audience. Suggested schedules, templates, tips, and tools are included to help you get started.

What should I study at the Camp?

What are you interested in learning about? This is a fantastic opportunity  to spend focussed time on whatever Biblical topic you want.

  • Is there a book/topic/theme of the Scriptures that you want to look at more closely?
  • Is there some Bible marking that you’ve been meaning to do for a long time but haven’t found the time to get around to it?
  • Is there a Christadelphian writing collecting dust on your bookshelf that you’ve always wanted to read?
  • Is there a series of audio Bible classes you'd like to listen to?

Camp Kaio is an intense but very fulfilling schedule. We have found that a combination of the above is helpful. We highly recommend making a tentative list of what you will study in each session in advance. See Schedule and Planning notes.

What is the schedule?

It is imperative to the success of the weekend and for everyone's personal benefit that everyone is committed to keeping the schedule shown at the end of this document.

We understand that there may be reasons why a 6:00 am start may be too early for you (if you have been extensively kept up during the night with a teething baby, for instance!) but wherever possible, we are asking all brothers and sisters who attend to commit to this schedule for the greatest benefit of all.

The scheduled personal study time (16+ hours over 3 days) is meant to be just that - quiet, personal Bible study time. As tempting as it may be to discuss a topic with others or share something you’ve learned, please save these discussions for recreation time. 🙂

Likewise, scheduled recreation times are intended to be time for everyone, young and old alike, whenever possible, to play together. As tempting as it may be to continue your studies, especially if you’re “on a roll”, the scheduled “play together” time is important, too.
